Edit Backlog #89: Milkyway Panorama
Milkyway at the beach. 5 image vertical panorama.
2017, Datça, Turkey
Sony a6000 and Samyang 21mm F1.4 Edited using Hugin and Darktable in Ubuntu Studio
This particular night was a clear night even in Datca standards. Enough that the shape of the milkyway was visible to the naked eye.
The image is actually a vertical panorama. 5 frames from Sony a6000 with Samyang 21mm F1.4 lens. 10″ second exposure for each frame. Frankly, using a proper camera makes milkyway photography a bit boring (not enough challenge, although I will probably revisit this to deal with some of the noise issues) after a year of editing cellphone photography raws of milkyway.
The panorama aspect was definitely a challenge through. A bit of a pain to stitch, Hugin likes to apparently squish down vertical panoramas. The solution ended up being putting a more narrower focal length and dealt with distortion in Darktable afterwards.
